Estate Planning involves making sure your wishes are known to the rest of the world.  It is a topic frequently on people's minds and all too often avoided because planning seems difficult and time consuming.  It doesn't have to be that way.  The attorneys at Cross Law Firm, PLC pride ourselves in asking the right questions to ensure a tailored estate plan for each client.  We will make sure you understand every document before you sign it.

You may be asking, "Do I have an estate?"  This is a question we are asked all the time.

In short, yes, you do.  We all do.

Many people typically reserve the term “estate” for the palatial mansions of Beverly Hills complete with a gated entryway and an indoor swimming pool.  But, it doesn’t take millions of dollars and tons of assets to make up an estate.

At its most basic form, an estate is comprised of a person’s accumulated real and personal property.  The term “real property” means real estate and it includes your home and any land you may own.  “Personal property,” on the other hand, is every other kind of property you own including cash, stocks, wedding rings, your pet dog, clothing, etc.  This property isn’t any less “real” than “real property” but these are the fancy names they have been given and we are stuck with them.

It is important to understand what makes up your estate if you want to plan your estate sensibly.  Let the experts at Cross Law Firm, PLC help you sort this all out.
